He gained publicity after the war as a scout, gunfighter, marksman, and professional gambler. He was killed while sitting at a poker game in Deadwood, South Dakota. When shot, Hickok was holding a pair of aces and a pair of eights, all black. The fifth card is thought to be a red face card, but it will forever be an area for debate. | |||||||
